Doug Hinman is the "Service above Self Award"  winner for the 2007-2008 club year. Doug and his wife Jackie operate The Shepard’s Inn and The Shepard’s Shop in South Hill.  It is a Christian entity that operates on donations and sales from the shop only. (06/26/2008)

As usual our new president's first event is the "Picnic in the Park". President Herbert sweats over the grill aided by Dwayne Gwaltney as some 2,500+ residents enjoy all the events of the day. (07/03/2008)

Our guest speakers for this meeting are Steve and Justin Rose of Rosemont Winery. They provided the club with an update on the progress of opening the winery and conducted a small tasting of their wines. (08/14/2008)

The Club has completed the first of several projects for this Rotary year. A community Service project of providing each local motel with a "South Hill Information Notebook" for front desk personnel which provides detailed area information and a new Town Map. (09/02/2008)

Rotarian Tommy Zincone presented the club with an update on the Alzheimer's Memory coming up on October 2, 2008. (09/11/2008)

The club kicks of the "Casino Night" ticket sales. The event is to be held Nov. 1, 2008 for the benefit of our annual scholarship fund. (09/11/2008)

Mecklenburg County School Superintendent Helen Hill presented an interesting update on our county school systems current and proposed improvements and concerns. (09/18/2008)

The first part of our Dictionary Project is completed as all students grades 3-5 received their personal dictionaries and each pre-k-2 class received 2 Picture Dictionaries. (09/30/2008)

South Hill wins big!!!. Our club won 8 awards at the District Conference for 2007/2008. A list of the awards is being posted to the "About Rotary" page. Be sure to check out the photos. (10/03-05/2008)

Guest speaker Harlan Wrenn from the Occupational Technical Center in Blackstone, gave a presentation of the Diesel Technology courses available at Southside Community College. (10/09/2008)

Guest speakers Melinda Elliott and Susan Moody updated the club on the current programs available through the United Methodist Family Services organization. (10/16/2008)

WOW, the awards just keep coming. South Hill has been given the "Rotary International Public Relations Award" for this district (62 clubs). The award is given for outstanding media coverage used to increase the awareness of Rotary. (See "About Rotary" page) 10/30/2008

The South Hill Rotary Club welcomed South Hill Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Frank Malone was guest speaker presenting the new Celebrate South Hill DVD used throughout the area to promote the Town of South Hill to visitors, prospective residents and to assist in the attraction of new businesses. Chrystal Harris, creator of the club newsletter "Rotary Matters" was our guest for the evening. Ms. Harris designed the newsletter and trained the club webmaster to edit the document. C. J. Tuck, President of the Park View F.B.L.A. observed the meeting. (12/04/2008)

Our 2 "Frozen Rotarycicle" volunteers who braved the windy cold to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. Rotarians Lee Warren and Mickey Sims are among some 11 Rotarians who have and will be ringing in December. (12/08)

Denise Williams was awarded a plaque for her invaluable assistance in helping the club obtain the 501c3 status. Ms. Williams is a CPA and partner at Creedle, Jones and Alga in South Hill. (12/18/2008)

Rotarian Mylene Powell was our guest speaker presenting a program on her experience as a "Rotaract" Club member in the Philippines. Also we were provided with info about how to start a Rotaract Club.(01/15/2009)

Frank Nanney of the South Hill Rotary Club presented its annual Service Above Self Award for 2008-2009 to Mrs. Lou Saunders, wife of long time Rotarian Dr. Tom Saunders.  Mrs. Saunders was one of the founding members of the CMH Auxiliary, organization in which she has remained active for 55 years.(06/25/2009)

Rotarian Herbert Farrar completed his 2008-2009 year as South Hill Rotary Club President. Herbert gave a wrap up club activities for the year.
